Resort Overview

Schladming ski resort is one of Austria's best: World cup cachet, north facing snow security and massive scope. Schladming is a wonderful medieval village with a great nightlife and lies at the centre of four major areas which connect to make it one of the biggest linked circuits in Austria. With enough variety and scope to satisfy all abilities, Schladming ski resort is one of Austria's top five ski destinations - and there's plenty of competition!

On The Slopes

Schladming ski resort boasts one of the best lift companies in Austria. Modern, fast chairs and gondolas provide Herculean uplift and a powerful snowmaking system is used early in the season to lay a great base.

The main ski area and the closest to Rocketski's hotels is the Planai, served by a gondola and catering well for beginners and intermediates. The heavily wooded, north-facing ski slopes, groomed to perfection, are hard to equal. There is a good mixture of skiing here but you can easily venture east to neighbouring Hauser-Kaibling, which has tremendous fast runs on avenues through pine forest. West is the Hochwurzen, with miles of gentle runs, superb for beginners. Further west of Schladming is the Reiteralm, a charming area with paths and glades, typical of Austrian skiing. Rohrmoos also has miles of easy slopes and a six person chair, which can be accessed on skis from the Planai and is a good alternative for beginners. Intermediate blues and reds cover the whole 160 km.

For advanced skiers Schladming, with its World Cup pedigree and international cachet, is definitely not to be sniffed at! Alberto Tomba and Hermann Maier are big fans and Arnold Schwarzenegger is a regular visitor. Further afield is the Dachstein Glacier, included on your ski pass and 45mins away by free ski bus.

Snowboarding

Schladming's fantastic for boarders. There's a permanent course, 2 half pipes plus fun parks and all the ski schools teach snowboarding. We also offer tailored Schladming snowboarding holidays.

Off The Slopes

The pedestrianised centre of Schladming ski resort dates from 1322 and is a sheer delight. The ancient streets twinkle with fairy lights and are lined with cafés and bars. It's also a real town with wood yard, railway station and brewery with adjacent pub. The vibrant nightlife makes Schladming a popular choice for those looking for a lively time, bars and cafes simply become pleasantly busy rather than raucous. There's everything in Schladming from modern music to relaxing, traditional beer cellars and tea dancing. The ski resort is notably friendly and a helpful local TV weather channel piped into Rocketski's hotels, gives live broadcasts and daily forecasts.

World Cup week - Possibly the best week of the year! Bring's a great party atmosphere to celebrate the ski races with bands, cafes and bars on the streets and 40,000+ enthusiasts and party goers descending on the town during the week. There's also a ski/snowboard show every Sunday.

If you ski in Schladming you'll discover all the classic winter holiday pursuits including an epic 7km toboggan run on a prepared piste through the pines and under the stars. It's magical and costs about £20.
