Situated next to the French border, this quaint Italian ski resort is part of the vast Milky Way ski area, with access to almost 400km of incredible piste which links to Sestriere, Sansicario, Sauze d'Oulx and Montgenèvre. There are also four terrain parks for boarders to enjoy.
The village itself has several restaurants serving hearty Italian meals and bars which run along the main street, so even though this is a smaller resort there’s enough to keep you entertained once the sun goes down.
Après Ski:
Claviere is a relatively quiet ski resort, offering a relaxed environment. However, this means there are not a large amount of après ski options. Many of the hotels in Claviere feature their own bars, where you can enjoy a drink after a day on the slopes. There is also a small selection of restaurants to choose from in town offering typical Italian food such as pizza, pasta and even some delicious gelato – it’s never too cold for ice cream! There are a range of non-ski activities in Claviere such as bowling and when it’s cold enough a natural ice-staking rink is formed at the top of the village.
Fun fact - Claviere is Italy’s oldest ski resort, with some of the first ski lifts and hotels opening in the early 1930's. The resort is part of the Milky Way, one of the world’s largest ski-lift linked areas. This region hosted the Winter Olympic Games in 2006 and the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1997.
Beginners:
There's a pleasant nursery area and an enormous blue run which starts above the trees and goes all the way back to the village. The run is quite long and demanding but enthusiastic beginners will love the sense of achievement when they accomplish this.
Intermediate:
Claviere has some great choices for intermediates, including adventurous semi off-piste routes down little paths which wind through the trees.
Advanced:
There are some good reds here, inspiring off-piste and of course the massive Milky Way circuit to explore.
Snowboarders:
There's fantastic options for boarders in the Milky Way, with an option to move easily between resorts and the four snowparks.
