Alpe d'Huez

With no shortage of places on resort to enjoy a drink or some live music after a big day on the slopes, Alpe d’Huez has always been a favourite for RocketSkiers. One of France’s top 5 ski resorts, Alpe d’Huez lies on a sunny plateau and attracts an unusually large amount of sun each year which is a lovely treat when discovering the mountain.

Sharing its huge ski area with the rustic village of Vaujany you can expect breathtaking scenery, fantastic ski conditions and traditional French culture. The purpose-built town offers ice-skating, swimming in the heated pool or simply enjoy a warm drink on a sunny outdoor terrace.

Key Features:

  • Known as L’ile au Soleil (Island of the Sun) as most slopes face south
  • Wide variety of runs including the 16km La Sarenne, the longest black run in the world
  • The modern lift system has one of the largest cable-cars in the world
  • Excellent facilities in resort with lots of restaurants and bars to choose from

On the Slopes:

Alpe d’Huez is home to one of Europe’s largest nursery areas which is a great place for new skiers to learn. Wide, sunny slopes will help ease first-timers into their turns.

Those have been before will enjoy a great range of long and varied runs. Skiers with plenty of stamina can try to the ‘8000-metre challenge’, skiing four runs, each with a vertical drop of 2000m.

There’s lots of long and challenging blacks and reds to choose from and those in search of bumpy mogul fields will not be disappointed.

Snowboarders will have a great time in Alpe d'Huez with a couple of boarder-cross parks and snow parks with ramps, jump and rails. They also have vast powder fields and natural gullies.
